Susanne Köppen

Susanne Köppen, Landscape ecologist, has been a research associate at ifeu since 2007 and is project manager in the team “Sustainable Biomass” department. She focuses on sustainability aspects relating to the use of biomass for energy and materials. Since the RED came into force, she has been supporting various stakeholders, particularly in its implementation and further development. This includes advising the responsible ministries on national implementation aspects as well as cooperating with and advising authorities and certification bodies on practical aspects, in particular on calculating greenhouse gas emissions. This also includes the creation and support of corresponding calculation aids at national level (the so-called ENZO2 tools).

In addition to the derivation of biomass potentials, other focal points include the modelling of greenhouse gas emissions at sectoral level (with the help of the Agriculture and LULUCF Model (ALMOD) developed by her) and the derivation of sustainability criteria for biomass and bioenergy at national and international level, as well as the derivation of prioritization criteria within the framework of the bioeconomy.
